Student Wellbeing and Diversity

Student Wellbeing and Diversity

“Wellbeing is integral to learning excellence and ultimately to overall health and life success. Wellbeing enables us to give expression to our authentic selves to realise our unique potential (Horizons of Hope, CEM, 2017).”

At St Gabriel’s we are justifiably proud of our safe, welcoming, inclusive school. We believe the wellbeing of our school community is the building block of our whole school culture.

The Catholic school community of St Gabriel’s fosters a safe, welcoming and nurturing environment for all. We believe that the experience of belonging and connectedness is essential for wellbeing to thrive. Through relationships with one another, the children of our school are enabled to discover who they are and find acceptance of self and each other.

At St Gabriel’s, we value the uniqueness of each child and their story – a story that is embedded in family, culture, history and traditions. All members of our school community are welcomed and treated with dignity and respect. Our school policies and practices are grounded in faith and promote an acceptance of uniqueness and individuality. We actively encourage our students to strive to make a difference in the world, to question and challenge injustices and act as compassionate and thoughtful members of society, living the Gospel in their daily lives.

“All students regardless of race, age or gender, by virtue of their dignity as human persons, have a right to an education that is suited to their particular needs and adapted to their ability, (Pope Paul VI 1965).

Learning Diversity at St Gabriel’s Primary School is enacted through an inclusive approach to teaching and learning, whereby every student has the opportunity to experience success.

Educators at our school enact inclusive policies and practices to accurately identify the diverse learning needs of individuals, consider effective approaches of support, provide adequate adjustments and monitor progress of all learners.
